the tears behind my smile - EPISODE 1

“When last did you see your period?” Dr.Tosin asked me
“Last month”, I replied. I am lying but I’m not about to admit it for all the things in China.
“The information I have here tells me that January was the last time you saw your period”
“No! I still saw my period last month but it was scanty compared to my normal flow but it didn’t bother me until last month when I didn’t see it at all”. I’m a medical student so I know all the things I can say to defend my point.

“I hope you are aware that this pregnancy is already 12weeks and 5days old, if we do not remove it today I’m going to have to induce you and you will have to give birth to a stillborn child”
“I know doctor”, it’s beginning to sound scary but I’ll be strong
“Did you take any medication of any sort with the aim of terminating the pregnancy?” hmm…. This doctor is being thorough.
“No, but I had malaria during the first few weeks and I took antimalarial drugs”, I’m lying again, the reason I had to come to a doctor in the first place was because all the oral methods I knew has been exhausted and I’m still pregnant.
“Okay then, let’s go to the labour room. Nurse! Please give her oxytocin”, he didn’t even wait for the nurse to appear before barking out instructions, but then it’s not such a large hospital.
As I’m being led to the labour room, the nurse whispers in my ear, “if you cooperate it won’t be too painful”.
This statement is too heavy for me to let it pass, so I ask her, “how long will this take?”
“About 20minutes, 30minutes max”, she answered.
This will be the worst and perhaps the last 30minutes of my life, I don’t think I want to die without telling my story, maybe someone who reads this and knows my mother will exactly what killed her daughter because she doesn’t even know I’m pregnant and she thinks I’m in school at the moment
